 2883 Auxiliary News...

 CRESAPTOWN  #2883 Auxiliary News

We read two applications for new membership at our April 12th meeting.  Our regular meeting night of April 26th has been postponed until May 3rd in the downstairs front room and other applications will be read.  The Nominating Committee will also present their report and we will hold the Election of Officers for the coming year.

We held a chicken dinner on Sunday, April 3rd, to benefit President Marianna Woolard’s projects, St. Jude’s & Ronald McDonald Houses.  There were 142 meals sold and $1,840.88 was earned for these worthwhile charities.  Marianna thanks everyone who joined us for the enjoyable meal and auction, the Aerie for the use of the facilities and Aerie members Jeff Hare and Kenneth Pratt for their help.  Auxiliary volunteers were:  Sandy Baier, Dora Jean Buchanan, Kelly Cordial, Kathy Hare, Tina Hill, Shirley Kane, Tanya Kessell, Sandy Lee Llewellyn, Evelyn Loar, Janet Nicol, Kim Shewbridge and Colleen Stewart.

We held an Easter Egg Hunt on Saturday, April 9th, with 30 children attending accompanied with parents and/or grandparents.  We had games, a visit with the Easter Bunny, treat bags, snacks and Frisbees for each child attending.  A surprise appearance by two of Connie Darr’s lambs delighted the children.  Sisters helping to hide eggs and entertain the children were:  Deb Buchanan, Dora Jean Buchanan, Kelly Cordial, Shirley Kane, Tanya Kessell (representing the Bunny), Janet Nicol and Colleen Stewart.  Co-Chairpersons Carolyn Helmstetter and Cathy McKenzie thank everyone who helped make this a fun event for our children.

We held a hoagie sale on Tuesday, April 19th, to benefit all Auxiliary Charities.  We prepared and sold 273 hoagies.  A surprise snow storm happened on the Prep Day, April 18th; however, since all supplies were in the Club kitchen, Aerie Trustee Jeff Hare picked up Sandy Baier, Dora Jean Buchanan and Kathy Hare, and other Sisters braving the weather were Carolyn Helmstetter and Cathy McKenzie.  Aerie member Kenneth Pratt cleared a path to the Club.  Joining the group on the 19th were:  Deb Buchanan, Dot Butler, Kathie Kauffman, Jody Montana, Janet Nicol, Maryon Phillips and Marianna Woolard.

On Wednesday, April 20th, we prepared three care packages for shipping to Lt. Andrew Daugherty, who is serving with the U. S.Army in Qatar in the Middle East.  This is a joint venture with the Aerie, Auxiliary and the Cresaptown United Methodist Church.  Chairman Dora Jean Buchanan thanks Shirley Kane and Beverly Warnick for packing the items and Brenda and Ernie Lowery for transporting the packages to the Cumberland Post Office for mailing.  Thanks also to Aerie and Auxiliary members who donated requested items or cash to add to the shipment.  Thanks to Kathy Hare for serving as liaison to the Church and to the Aerie for their continued support by paying all shipping charges.

Cresaptown Aerie and Auxiliary hosted the Spring Conference of the State Auxiliary on April 23rd and 24th.  It began with a 50/50 Poker Run sponsored by the Eagles Riders Group for the benefit of State Madam President Cathy McKenzie’s charities, Crohn’s & Colitis Foundations (Camp Oasis).  Saturday evening featured the “Wheel Bonanza” and Karaoke.  Many fine singers participated; however, my favorite was our own Diana Booth with her rendition of “Proud Mary.”  We enjoyed being host to all our Eagle friends for the weekend.  Our hope is that everyone had a good time but also completed their business agenda on matters pertaining to our Order and their Aerie and Auxiliary.

The Aerie announced they have scheduled their Annual Mother’s Day dinner on Monday, May 9th, at 6 PM.  Tickets are available at the Bar for $5 and the deadline for purchase is May 2nd.  ( All revenue from ticket sales will be donated to Charity.)

Reminders:  Next hoagie sale is May 17th.  Call Kathy at 301-268-9640 for pre-      orders.  Ham and Italian – 8$ - Turkey - $9.  Pickup 10 AM to 4 PM.

Special Bingo is scheduled for Sunday, May 22nd.  Tickets are $35.  Doors open 11 AM – 1st Quickie 12 Noon – Regular Bingo 1:30 PM.  Benefits  Crohns & Colitis and St. Jude’s and Ronald McDonald Houses.  Contact Cathy at 301-707-5096 or Marianna at 301-697-4865 for ticket information.  (Also available at bar.)
