We read two applications for new membership and one enrollee for the month of May. We initiated five new members on Tuesday, May 23rd.
On Sunday, April 30th, we held a “Day at the Bay” featuring fish, bay wings and boardwalk fries. All proceeds benefitted St. Jude’s Hospital and Ronald McDonald Houses, President Marianna’s Project. Helping were: Melissa Barley, Kelly Bothast, Kathy Hare, Mary Lynn Hawkins, Carolyn Helmstetter, Tanya Kessell, Debra Ko, Kistion Mauzy and Marianna Woolard.
On Friday, May 5th, we celebrated “Cinco de Mayo” by having a lunch featuring tacos, taco salad, chips and salsa and chicken tortilla soup. All proceeds were divided between St. Jude’s Hospital and Platoon 22. Helping were: Kelly Bothast, Kathy Hare, Mary Lynn Hawkins and Marianna Woolard.
On Sunday, May 7th, we prepared an oven fried chicken dinner to benefit Platoon 22. Helping were: Melissa Barley, Kelly Bothast, Dora J. Buchanan, Kathy Hare, Carolyn Helmstetter, Tanya Kessell, Cathy McKenzie, Janet Nicol, Maryon Phillips and Marianna Woolard.
On Monday, May 15th, the Aerie hosted a Mother’s Day Dinner for Mothers and Grandmothers of the members of the Aerie and Auxiliary at the Aerie Home. The Brothers prepared and served over 100 guests a stuffed chicken breast dinner, mixed vegetables, cole slaw, rolls and cake. Thanks to our Aerie Officers and members for this tribute. Volunteers were: Bill Beeman, Jeff Cecil, Denny McKenzie, Joe Moffat, Eddie Morris, Dave Shoemake, Jr. and Randy Zambanini.
President Marianna Woolard presented a corsage created by Tanya Kessell to every woman present. She recognized and thanked her Officers for their support for her two-year term. She also presented a monetary gift from the Auxiliary to Kathy Hare, Honorary Mother of the Year and Jean Brotemarkle, Honorary Grandmother of the Year.
On Tuesday, May 16th, the Auxiliary presented a check for $8,590 to the Western Maryland Health System Foundation in support of the Schwab Family Cancer Center, Dialysis Unit, Diabetes Program and the Heart and Vascular Institute.
On Monday, May 22nd, we catered a dinner for the Optimist Club honoring law enforcement. Volunteers were: Sandy Baier, Dora J. Buchanan, Cathy Cecil, Kathy Hare, Carolyn Helmstetter, Janet Nicol, Amy Sites, Linda Stewart and Marianna Woolard.
At the End-of-Month Drawing, the Auxiliary provided food sold from the Club kitchen. Thanks to the Aerie for giving us this opportunity to earn money for our General Fund and to buy needed accessories for our use in the kitchen. Donating cakes were: Debbie Buchanan, Amanda Croson, Kathy Hare and Evelyn Loar. Volunteers were: Debbie and Dora J. Buchanan, Kathy Hare, Mary Lynn Hawkins, Stacy Hitchins, Tanya Kessell and Janet Nicol.
On Tuesday, May 30th, we held a Joint Meeting with the Officers of the Aerie. Prior to the meeting, the group enjoyed a covered dish picnic provided by the Auxiliary, featuring hot dogs with Mary Lynn’s homemade sauce, and many side dishes and desserts.
We continue to support our veterans by supplying requested items to the VA Hospital in Martinsburg that provides services to many of our local residents.
This is a joint project of the Aerie, Auxiliary and Cresaptown United Methodist Church. We honored the female ward with homemade floral pillow cases from the ladies of the Church and Freedom Coins of Thanks supplied by donations from our members. We will honor the male ward with PX Coupon Booklets the month of June for Father’s Day.
We will have our Ceremony of Installation of Officers for 2023-24 on Sunday, June 11th. We will have a dinner prior to the ceremony at l:00 PM, followed by the Ceremony at 2:00 PM.
