National Beer Day
National Beer Day is observed annually on April 7th. Celebrate with a pint of pale ale, lager, stout, wheat beer or pale ale. One of the world’s oldest prepared beverages, beer possibly dates back to 9500 BC when cereal was first farmed. It is recorded in the written history of ancient Iraq and ancient Egypt. Beer is the world’s most widely consumed alcoholic beverage. Following water and tea, it is the third most popular drink overall. HISTORY On April 7, 1933, President Franklin Roosevelt took the first step toward ending Prohibition and signed a law that allowed people to brew and sell beer, in the United States, as long as it remained below 4.0% alcohol by volume (ABV). Beer drinkers celebrated and were happy to be able to purchase beer again for the first time in thirteen years. Our research found this day was created as National Beer Day by Justin Smith, a Richmond, Virginia Craft Beer Examiner, and his friend Mike Connolly from Liverpool, England. April 7th was chosen because the Cullen-Harrison Act was signed into law and became active on this day. In 2009, Smith and Connolly created a National Beer Day Facebook page. From this page, they invited friends to join, and word has spread to many sources that April 7 is National Beer Day.
This is an example of the possible payout schedule. I picked the arbitrary amount of $500 to be divided and the rest of the pot to go to a party. After payouts we have $423.75 to party on!!
The amount that we should have based on the calculations is $910.00, the actual collected amount is $918.75 which is $8.75 to the good.
From Maryon Phillips, Auxiliary Secretary -
Many of our ladies Auxiliary members may have not received their Dues reminders this year. Although many know their dues come due May 31st every year and do not have to wait for a reminder, they can pay their dues any time. Previous years a member had 3 months and 16 days before they would be dropped, according to the new R&R, not anymore; from now on, members that have not paid their dues will be dropped from the membership roster after 1 month, which would be July 1st, 2021. If a member’s dues are not up to date, they will not be able to participate in any function held at the Aerie Home.
If there are any questions, contact Secretary Maryon - 304-738-4855

Setback League
Due to the China Virus and the restrictions we now have to operate under the Setback League banquet for the 2019-2020 Season had to be canceled. All league money will be paid out according to the established guidelines from years past. See Denny McKenzie to receive your envelope.
All Aerie & Auxiliary members your yearly dues come due on May 31, 2020. The Grand Aerie Membership Dept. will be sending out due’s reminders beginning in April, May & June. You may pay your Membership dues now, as every reminder sent out is an incurred cost to the Aerie and Auxiliary, paying early will help the Aerie and Auxiliary to not get charged for postage. You can leave your payment in an envelope with your name & amount in the Aerie and Auxiliary's mailbox at the club or mail to Cresaptown Eagles 14700 McMullen Hwy Cresaptown MD 21502, please indicate whether Aerie or Auxiliary.
FROM THE GRAND AERIE ON DUES:
"We’ve also received many questions and concerns regarding upcoming dues. The Grand Aerie has made the decision to cover the cost of the first dues reminder that is being sent out to all members who still have yet to renew. Local Aeries and Auxiliaries will NOT be charged anything for the first reminders. At this point, the Grand Aerie remains committed to the May 31 dues deadline, with a 30 day grace period extending until June 30, and we will continue to monitor the situation in the coming weeks as things progress." Unfortunately in this time of concern and inactivity, life continues on and this is one of those things that still have to been taken care of. |
FROM THE GRAND AERIE ON ELECTIONS:
"The last few weeks have been unlike any we have seen before due to the coronavirus crisis and as we continue to abide by the orders of our respective States and Provinces, we know that many of you have important questions about operations moving forward. One of the primary concerns is in regard to local Aerie and Auxiliary Elections. Per the Grand Aerie Constitution & Statutes, Nominations are to be held annually at the last meeting in April. Obviously, this will not be possible for the majority of our Aeries and Auxiliaries this year. Those that are still able to meet must proceed as outlined in the Constitution & Statutes. Those that cannot meet, by order of the Grand Worthy President, should proceed in the following manner: · First meeting after re-opening: Nomination of Officers · Second meeting after re-opening: Election of Officers · At least 5 days after Elections: Installation of Officers In the event a local Aerie or Auxiliary would like to expedite this process, they may do so only by following the Constitutional requirements regarding holding a Special Meeting, found in Section 72.2. The format and voting time for your elections must follow what is outlined in your local Aerie or Auxiliary by-laws. All current officers will remain in their respective offices until your successor is duly elected and installed." |
The Eagles were contacted today and informed that they are being shut down by the Liquor Board. This seems to be the result of one of our bartenders who thought they had a sinus infection; at the clinic, they tested for coronavirus and the test was positive. As a result, the Aerie was thoroughly and completely sanitized. Prior to this positive test we had already reasserted a strong encouragement to our members to mask up when not seated and when coming and going and requiring all employees to wear masks. The Health Department contacted the Eagles and inquired about how we were addressing this issue and it was explained that the seating had and was still being setup for social distancing, a complete sanitation was done and mask requirements were posted at all doors and are going to be strictly enforced and if employees felt sick they are not to work and they had a liberal leave policy. At the end of that conversation they seemed satisfied that our efforts were sufficient to carry on. We will on Monday see what hoops we will need to jump through to get open again. We urge anyone who feels they were exposed to be tested.

The Cresaptown Eagles is open now and as of 5 PM Friday June 19th we will be opening for our regular hours. Last week we had to have the kitchen open and we did. The kitchen did OK but not enough to support the number of hours it was open. We may explore adding more days and hours to the kitchen operation in the future but for now we are reverting to our regular kitchen days and hours. We have incorporated social distancing measures by moving some of the chairs and cordoning off tables. The Queen of Hearts and Monthly Sign-Up Drawing will commence on their scheduled days with special rules in place for as long as the restrictions last, once we return to full operation the rules will revert to normal. The Queen of Hearts and Monthly Drawing rule changes are designed to try and keep our occupancy at no more that 50% while being fair to all members, see the signs posted around the club and on Facebook and the webpage. Jackpot Wednesday will commence as normal. If we cannot make this work the alternative will be to suspend the Queen of Hearts and Monthly Drawing. Please be patient and understand that the bartenders will be operating as they are required, this is new to all of us. Tip jars that were posted as still out have 30 days to be claimed and the 30 day starts Friday June 12th. See sign posted where jars are listed and on Facebook and the webpage. Development of the newly acquired and cleared property has been put on hold due to some recent findings about the alleys that are still open on the books of the county. The Officers of the Aerie will be taking steps to get the alleys closed and all the properties listed as the same address. Once the legalities are done we can move forward with planning.
Property Issues being resolved...the third of three notification ads required: Pursuant to the development of the property that was purchased next door to us, it was determined that the alleys between the properties were still open on the records of the county. This would prevent development of the property to the fullest extent. The need to shut the alley is being addressed by having to legally open the alley so that it can be permanently closed by the County Commissioners. After it is properly closed further development of the property will be discussed and meetings will be held! Now that it has appeared 3 times the issue will go before the County Commissioners on January 4th!

Happy Birthday to Our Flag!
On June 14, 1777, the Continental Congress replaced the British symbols of the Grand Union flag with a new design featuring 13 white stars in a circle on a field of blue and 13 red and white stripes – one for each state. People across the United States celebrate Flag Day on June 14 each year to honor the United States flag and to commemorate the flag’s adoption. The flag of the United States represents freedom and has been an enduring symbol of the country’s ideals since its early days.
